Mandrake shields the pod under his own
shadow, causing it to bloom in darkness. Marigold is chosen by Queen Tara's spirit to to take on the gift and the curse of the power she had to bestow. The young leafchild is transformed, given the same power to control the forest; but as Mandrake would say, "what is born in the darkness, belongs to the darkness."
